September 2009:

It rained the whole afternoon, letting up only as darkness fell. Arriving at about 16:30 h, I was the first customer for the day, saving it from being a total write-off.

adonis_1Fourteen boys lined up for selection, some with their shirts off. Most were the lean toned type, not quite muscular, but certainly not the skinny, undernourished kind. By my coding system, I’d say S2 in the main, with a few S3M.

“What you like?” asked the captain Noom. “Good massage? Good sek?”

I gave him a look that said: Come on, we all know why we’re here.

“Want me recommend?” Noom asked.

“No need,” I said, having already made up my mind. It was not a great selection, but about three or four would have been acceptable.  “The fourth guy from the left,” I told the captain. “What’s his name?” Continue reading Adonis left me more than satisfied…

These things happen. You’re walking along the street thinking of nothing in particular when your eyes lock on to someone else’s. He was among a group of six workers, laying paving stones. I was among a motley group of pedestrians inconvenienced by them closing off the sidewalk and forcing us onto the street.

I was merely glancing in their general direction, but he happened to look up at that moment. Or was it telepathy?  In an instant, our eyes locked. My face must have given me away. He was cute and there must have been a flash of a smile from me. He returned the smile. Continue reading “I make floor,” he said….

Forty boys at four

Hero Massage, frankly, is in a class of its own. Which other massage place can boast of having 40 boys on duty at four on a weekday afternoon?

And they’re all of similar type too: broad-shouldered, fit and built. Not quite the competition body-builder type that you see among Tawan’s biggest, but certainly very attractive specimens of manhood. Continue reading Forty boys at four…

Street trade alive and well

September 2009:

I’ve been to Saranrom Park before, about two years ago – in the afternoon. Even then, I noticed a few single guys hanging loose and making eye contact – the classical signs of cruising. What I didn’t know then was whether payment would be expected.

Since then, it’s come to my attention from various online forums that evenings are when Sararom really comes alive.

I should check it out, I told myself. However, I was also mindful that the same online forums mentioned it to be an “At Your Own Risk” (AYOR) kind of thing. And also that, the scene catering more for local Thais, one would need to be able to speak Thai to chat any boy up.

But first of all, where is Saranrom Park? Continue reading Street trade alive and well…

September 2009:

Mid afternoon. Things were languid. From outside, through the glass panes, I could see three women chatting idly and a young man reading a book. They looked surprised when I entered.

“You have Thai massage?” I asked no one in particular.

Yes, yes, we have. Sit down please. All three women replied, each sporting her best smile. The boy hardly looked up.

Mamasan encounters of the all too common kind

September 2009:

A week after the incident with the waiter sticking to me like a leech (See the post The waiter waited, and waited), I went back to Dream Boy again. This time I was looking for a boy who might bottom.

witchAfter viewing the rotation of boys onstage for 20 minutes or so, I had compiled a shortlist of those I fancied  – there were eight or nine – and hailed a mamasan (name: Siw).  Which of these boys will be prepared to bottom? I asked, checking one number after another with him. To all of them, Siw said “Can.”

Was it my lucky day, or was Siw pulling a fast one on me? I have always had the impression that at least half the boys in Soi Twilight bars would be top only. What were the chances that all eight or nine boys whom I have shortlisted would really be prepared to bottom? Continue reading Mamasan encounters of the all too common kind…

“Are you working at another place?” I asked Mah, aware that he no longer was part of Agaya’s stable.

“Now, not working,” he replied. “Go back to school, university.”

“Oh, that’s good,” I said, genuinely pleased that he had made that move. Massage boys need a better future than staying in the trade.

I didn’t give a good account of Agaya in my earlier report. For a day or two prior to this session with Mah, I was once again getting ready to write another critical piece. But they were saved when a text message came into my phone on Wednesday morning: “OK today 2 pm,” it said.

Advice to massage business owners: Try not to have more space than you really need. It will cost too much to furnish the area properly, and the result of a budget stretched thin will be either that the space is left empty, warehouse-like, or is done up with cheap furniture. The large spaces will also lead you to turn off the air-conditioning lest the electricity bill overwhelms the business, but then your customers are greeted with warm, humid rooms on arrival.

The above just about describes my first impressions of Blue Lotus at Ekkamai Soi 7.

bluelotus_3

One more piece of advice: Remove old signboards. Don’t leave them lying around near the front door.

As I approached Blue Lotus’ entrance, there leaning against a wall was a sign that must have recently been taken down. It said “Blue Lotus Karaoke”. My thoughts primed thus, that was the association I made when I saw the sitting area with its vinyl sofas and plastic flowers: tacky karaoke host bar. Another unflattering association that came to mind: cheap dance hall. Continue reading In a karaoke room…

Cheap bus transfers from Kuala Lumpur’s LCCT

November 10, 2009 at 00:03 | In Gay Kuala Lumpur, Hotels and transport, Mack's advisories, Mack's directions | 6 Comments

KLIA_layoutThis is one of those blogposts where, to some readers, I am only saying the obvious. But, hey, it was a discovery for me and I reckon that for others who do not travel to Kuala Lumpur regularly, it may be useful infomation. So, please bear with me.

Very often, Air Asia gives excellent deals for travelling to Malaysia. In fact, I don’t recall ever using any other airline between Bangkok and the Malaysian capital.

However, Air Asia does not use the main terminal at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA); it uses the Low Cost Carrier Terminal – LCCT for short. As you can see from the diagram at right, the LCCT is on the opposite side of the aircraft parking apron from the main terminal. This means that the express rail link – the fastest way to get downtown – is out of reach since it connects only to the main terminal. There is a shuttle bus from the LCCT to the main terminal, but I think it leaves only every half hour and the distance (by road) appears to be about 12 – 15 km judging from satellite images. Cheap food at Suvarnabhumi

November 8, 2009 at 00:33 | In Food and drink, Gay Bangkok, Mack's advisories | 6 Comments

Like increasing numbers of people, I fly budget airlines if I’m hopping around Southeast Asia. For example, between Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, I think I’ve only ever used Air Asia.

One downside is that on budget airlines, food and drink on board have to be purchased and the prices aren’t attractive at all.

suvarna_foodcourt_2What I do instead is to check in for the flight early, which is my habit anyway since I hate to be in a rush, and have a meal at the terminal before the flight. At Kuala Lumpur’s Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT), which is a rather compact building, the various fast food outlets are quite obvious to the eye. At Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi terminal, however, the cheap option is not so obvious. Sure, there are plenty of food options both inside the checked-in area as well as outside, on the mezzanine floor between the Arrivals and Departures floors, but these places still have “airport” prices.
