Cheap food at Suvarnabhumi

Like increasing numbers of people, I fly budget airlines if I’m hopping around Southeast Asia. For example, between Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, I think I’ve only ever used Air Asia.

One downside is that on budget airlines, food and drink on board have to be purchased and the prices aren’t attractive at all.

suvarna_foodcourt_2What I do instead is to check in for the flight early, which is my habit anyway since I hate to be in a rush, and have a meal at the terminal before the flight. At Kuala Lumpur’s Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT), which is a rather compact building, the various fast food outlets are quite obvious to the eye. At Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi terminal, however, the cheap option is not so obvious. Sure, there are plenty of food options both inside the checked-in area as well as outside, on the mezzanine floor between the Arrivals and Departures floors, but these places still have “airport” prices.

Here’s the tip: There’s a food court meant to serve airport workers tucked away in a corner of Suvarnabhumi. Increasing numbers of travellers have discovered it, glad for the food-court prices it offers.

Where is it exactly?

Go down to the lowest floor of Suvaranabhumi – that’s one floor below Arrivals. Then, facing the driveway, turn to your left and walk as far as you can to the end of the building. You will pass the Bell Bus waiting area on your way there (See also the posts Express bus from Suvarnabhumi  airport to Pattaya and Bell bus lost my booking.)

Here are some photos I took.

Like any food court in Thailand, you will need to buy coupons to exchange for food. One hundred baht’s worth is more than enough per person. The meal below, for example, cost me 75 baht. Fish noodles, spring rolls and iced tea.

  1. Thanks. We always ate at the employee food court at Don Muang airport, but couldn’t find anyone to direct us to the one at Suvarnabhumi… until now.

  2. thank you for this information. it is going to help out on my upcoming trip

  3. Genius….

I always thought there was something missing in the food department out there. Thank you!

  4. Oh yes, l been to this place before, the food is nice and less expensive, cost a lot less in the airport, l have once eat the most expensive BK in the world at BKK hotel.

  5. Oops, sorry! type error, ta Bkk airport!

  6. Thanks again for posting this, I ate there last week on my flight out.
Another tidbit of info. I found getting down to this level tricky as security won’t let you travel between the depature level and the food court level using the travelators. Take the elevator both ways. I suspect the airport is trying to get passengers to eat at the more expensive food court one level down from departures, which is easy to access. If you’re going any further, security directs you to the elevator. Same applies coming up from the bottom level, security directs you to the elevator.
