Steady stream of clients at Sanctuary Spa

July 2009:

Sanctuary was about the most expensive place I visited on this trip. It was also the busiest. Why? I think it’s because it has developed a reputation for consistently good quality.
When I arrived, about 17:00 h, there was one other client at the reception. He had entered a few minutes before me, and had just removed his shoes.
When I had finished and came down to settle the bill, so did another customer. As I was enjoying my hot tea before saying goodbye – that would have been about 19:00 h - yet another customer arrived. Continue reading Steady stream of clients at Sanctuary Spa…
Arena an option for lunchtime massage

July 2009:
Finding myself across the street from Arena one day, I decided to pop in and see if anything had changed. Nope. The main hall was as cavernous as ever, its lighting as sad and dim as before.
For a moment, there wasn’t even anyone about. Usually, there’d be boys sitting outside on the balcony, quick to spot anyone walking in from the street, but not today. Pushing the door open to let myself in, I was greeted with emptiness. There was not a soul in the large hall.
For only a moment.
A few seconds later, one came out from the shadows, a little surprised to see a potential customer. Then another, who called out to the rest, and soon, there were about eight or nine ten guys forming a line-up. Like the way I remember them, they tended to be the masculine type, with lean muscles. What’s on the other side of the river?
August 16, 2009 at 22:34 | In Gay Bangkok, Hotels and transport, Mack's reports | 7 CommentsJuly 2009:
Buying a ticket for the Skytrain one day, I noticed that the Silom line had been extended across the Chao Phraya river to Thonburi. It used to end at Saphan Taksin station, but now, two more stations have been added, with the line terminating at Wongwian Yai.
There is very little reason for a tourist to go to Thonburi. I think I’ve been across the river just twice: once, to get to the Southern Bus Terminal, and another time to check out a sauna. I think it was called Orion. Does it still exist? I don’t know.
Now, Thonburi is a very large place, and I was pretty sure I had never been to Wongwian Yai. So, instead of going where I had originally planned to go, I chose instead to ride to the new end of the line for a look-see. Continue reading What’s on the other side of the river?…
Second time good massage at Janpa

July 2009:
Reporting on massage shops is a dicey affair. While one can be relatively objective describing the facility and listing the charges, reporting the experience is fraught with subjectivity and chance. This is because much depends on who is serving you. One visit, you may have chosen someone who is skilled or with whom there is some chemistry, another visit, you get someone with a poor attitude. It’s hard to generalise from just one report.
It takes perhaps 3 – 4 repeat visits over a short period of time to be able to make a few generalisations about any business’ service standard, which would be beyond my available time or budget. Readers are thus advised to do a wider web search for reports on any single place, rather than rely on what I say.
Occasionally however, I do make repeat visits quite soon after the first. This report is one such, being my second visit to Janpa, having been there just four months earlier when it was located on Sukhumvit Soi 41. Now, it has moved to Sukhumvit Soi 13. As you can see from the post Skidding hands, Sakol, the masseur on my first visit, gave me a good massage, which I rated 8/10. Continue reading Second time good massage at Janpa…
Airport taxi complaints form
August 10, 2009 at 20:37 | In Gay Bangkok, Hotels and transport, Mack's advisories | 4 CommentsJuly 2009:
I’ve had all manner of experiences with Bangkok taxi drivers, but so far, no trouble from those from the airport. Yet, from time to time, I come across people saying they were taken for a ride.
Now, I don’t know where they hailed the taxi, but there is really only one official spot to get one. It is at the far left (as you face the driveway) of the Arrivals floor. If you hail a taxi from some other part of the airport, or use the services of a tout in the Arrivals public area itself, the taxi driver may take advantage of you. Does this happen often or only rarely? I have no way of knowing. Continue reading Airport taxi complaints form…
Cosy and friendly at Baan Tewa

July 2009:
Baan Tewa occupies a single townhouse in a subsoi just behind the Singapore embassy on Sathorn Road. I was met by Vit, who was probably the best-looking guy in the house, but I wasn’t sure if he was available.
The photo album had just 6 – 7 guys, none of whose faces struck me as to-die-for. Body-wise, most seemed to be S2 (See Body Shape Codes) though it’s hard to tell from photos alone.
Baan Tewa didn’t have a 60-minute massage on its menu, so I took the 90-minute item, priced at 750 baht. Continue reading Cosy and friendly at Baan Tewa…
Nobody no more

July 2009:
In the 1990s, Nobody was one of the better known gay massage places in Bangkok. I first visited them when they were at the Sukhumvit Plaza location.
At one point, they even had a branch in North Pattaya. I remember the massage quality to have been generally good, but that the boys were distinctly reluctant about providing more than a hand job. As icon513 of the Cruising For Sex bulletin board remarked (21 July 2009), “you have to pry the masseurs out of their pants with a crowbar.”
I regret to report that Nobody is now history. The Pattaya location has long been gone, and now the Bangkok shop at Sukhumvit Soi 33 has been taken over by a new establishment. Continue reading Nobody no more…
