This blog is taking a little break. I have not been in Thailand or Malaysia since September, so there are no new reviews to post. Instead, I am heading the other direction, going back to farangland for the holiday season. I have nowhere to stay except with mama; that being the case, I don’t expect to be able to work on this blog in her house (“What is this blog about, dear?”) even if I have news to share. I will revive this blog after a month or so.
But soon after the hols, I will be off to Manila and by the later part of January there should, hopefully, be stories to tell about what I find there. In fact, if anyone has come across places with good reviews, let me know and I’ll check them out when I’m there – provided I can find their addresses.
In the meantime, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all my readers a beautiful Christmas and the best for 2010.

Recalling a guy – let’s call him Juern – I had off’d from Fresh Beach Boys about six months prior who was a delight in bed, I went back to the bar, hoping to see him again. My lucky day. He was there on stage. He looked beefier than I remembered, he also had a new tattoo on a deltoid. But the face and the short-cropped hair were the same.
I looked around for a waiter or mamasan, but there were none within hailing distance. It’s a funny bar, this. They have plenty of staff and few customers – there were barely twelve in the bar at the moment – and yet no help was at hand. They all seemed to be outside in the soi trying to pull people in. Pull. My Bangkok massage picks for 2009

As promised in my previous post, I will now declare my picks for Bangkok massage places. The selection is limited to the ones I visited this year (as seen in Massage Venues Summary 2009).
Since Thai massage places come in different categories, it is not possible to declare an overall “winner”. Instead, I will name what I consider the best value places for each of these groups. By “value”, I don’t mean the cheapest though obviously a less expensive place delivering a high standard of service in a nice environment would score better than a more expensive shop.
Type 1: Mixed gender massage shops – Prime on Six is my pick. Located on Silom Soi 6, it is very convenient for anyone staying in the Silom area. Housed in a clean, newly-remodelled building, it has proper massage tables with face-wells. At 400 baht for one-hour oil massage, it is a little cheaper than the shops along the main Silom Road and the same as places further away, e.g. Dalha in On Nut. Although it is a mixed gender facility, it has a large number of massage boys; presumably, if you ask nicely, you could choose the one you like, though on my visit, I took whoever was assigned to me by rotation. He delivered a very high quality massage and the manager/partner downstairs gave me the impression that he cared about standards. Continue reading My Bangkok massage picks for 2009…

Last December, I made a summary list of the Thai massage places I visited in 2008. It proved to be one of the most popular posts, judging by the number of hits. Below is a new list for 2009, but this year, I’m restricting it to Bangkok places. Although I visited a couple of places in Pattaya and Chiangmai, I’m not sure if it would be fair to compare them to Bangkok with its different cost pressures.

As recently as three or four years ago, there would be 10 – 15 guys available for rent along the stretch of Rama 4 Road between Silom and Surawong every evening. They could also be found on Silom Road in the short stretch between Soi 2 (Soi DJ Station) and the Rama 4 junction. Lately, the number seems to have dwindled considerably. Nowadays, I seldom see more than 5 or 6.
How this trend came about, I don’t know.
Maybe there were too many people like me – avoiding pick-ups from the street. Without demand, supply would dwindle, such is market economics.

When I read Sextile’s post on Cruising for Sex, mentioning a particular massage position, I knew exactly what he meant. He was at Indra Massage, and was trying to teach the masseur something new.
In exchange I shewed him what some of the masseurs in WHITE HOUSE SPA. do: the masseur kneels down between his client’s legs and places the clients thighs on top of his own, thus raising the lower part of the clients body, so that his hands can reach easily under the client’s body.
It is highly sensual, and I’m sure it is much appreciated by many clients.
I can’t recall when I myself first experienced this new move. It may or may not have been at White House Spa, but it is indeed true that only recently has this new position been “invented” so to speak, and has not gone into general use, at least as far as gay massage is concerned. Massage Venues Summary 2009 (Kuala Lumpur)

Since I have no further plans to go to Malaysia between now and the end of the year, I can now close the book on my Malaysian experiences for 2009. Here is a summary listing of the places I visited through the year. Like the summary I did for Thai places 2008, the factors considered are mainly venue-specific rather than boy-specific. 
Boys come and go and experiences are highly subjective.
The notable thing about this list is how similar the places were. All of them had mattresses on the floor. None of them had en-suite showers. The general standard of the facilities is distinctly lower than the average in Bangkok. It rained the whole afternoon, letting up only as darkness fell. Arriving at about 16:30 h, I was the first customer for the day, saving it from being a total write-off.
Fourteen boys lined up for selection, some with their shirts off. Most were the lean toned type, not quite muscular, but certainly not the skinny, undernourished kind. By my coding system, I’d say S2 in the main, with a few S3M.
“What you like?” asked the captain Noom. “Good massage? Good sek?”
I gave him a look that said: Come on, we all know why we’re here.
“Want me recommend?” Noom asked.
